Unlocking Human Performance Through Design Innovation

WHOOP wanted to build the most advanced fitness wearable on the market. The harder challenge was designing one elite athletes would actually wear all day.

Material’s design studio Aruliden partnered with WHOOP to answer that question through competitive intelligence, brand strategy, go-to-market planning and industrial design built around how elite athletes actually train.

WHAT WE DID

Approach

Immersion + Strategy: We began by studying the competitive landscape and user needs to establish a differentiated design strategy and brand identity. We then researched and developed WHOOP’s brand ethos, charting a path for a successful launch and beyond.

Design + Prototyping: With a clear understanding of the fitness landscape, user needs and WHOOP’s opportunities to win, we established design mandates and iterated on prototypes to develop an innovative physical device. The WHOOP fits every user, is so comfortable you forget you’re wearing it and does not need to be removed to charge.

UX Optimization + Integration: We then optimized WHOOP’s physical UX to enable seamless integration between hardware and software, allowing users to access advanced real-time data transmitted 100 times per second, 24 hours a day.
