ICTSI

Challenge

It was expensive for ICTSI to host multiple independent sites and cumbersome to duplicate efforts when rolling out new websites. It also proved problematic to rely on geographically dispersed tech teams and overly complex to scale digital experiences with existing infrastructure.

Solution

We consolidated 30+ websites onto a single digital platform.

Results

ICTSI now has centralized editorial control and less developer dependence, vastly reduced costs, the flexibility to efficiently roll out multilingual websites, and the ability to streamline content publishing workflow.

A rapidly growing industry

ICTSI, a global port services operator with 32 terminals across 19 countries, developed the world’s first fully automated international container handling facility at Victoria International Container Terminal in Melbourne, Australia.

ICTSI’s independent sites were hosted on diverse tech stacks with high maintenance costs, which hindered the organization’s ability to invest in value-added projects. ICTSI web teams had infrequent communication with each other and little sight into the workings of other terminal sites.

Using Drupal, Vuejs and AWS Cloud to scale and increase productivity

According to New York-based analysis company Market Research Future, the platform consolidation market size is expected to reach $165.5 billion by 2026, growing at a market growth of 27% CAGR. The key driver of this growth is the need for scalability and centralization. We came onboard to help ICTSI do both.

Our tech stack (Drupal, Vuejs and AWS Cloud) enabled ICTSI to consolidate its different terminal sites onto a single, scalable and cost-effective platform.

The results:

  • ICTSI now enjoys centralized editorial control that enables user-friendly creation of multilingual content across regional websites, as well as reduced developer dependence when onboarding new terminals.
  • The cost of hosting, managing, and maintaining websites has been dramatically reduced.
  • We revamped ICTSI’s content strategy to ensure site-wise uniformity and editorial efficiency and reduce time-to-market for new sites.
  • We implemented a streamlined data storage and migration strategy across terminal sites.

And for those curious, here’s a bit more about our technical approach to the solution we built: We rendered a multisite architecture solution hosted on AWS to centralize maintenance and control by sharing a single Drupal codebase across 30+ terminal websites. We then integrated the Philippines Stock Exchange (PSE) real-time ticker through a plugin on the global site.
