Making technology accessible to business users

Selecting and implementing new technology should be getting easier. After all, enterprise technologies continue to mature alongside internal IT teams, and there are more options than ever. So why are things often still so hard?

It’s not the technology itself. Here’s what we see:

  1. Silos continue to hinder good decision making. The technology team doesn’t have access to, or doesn’t understand, the organizational needs they are supposed to serve. This leads to technology choices that don’t serve critical use cases, which in turn creates more workarounds and frustration — as delays, and costs, add up.
  2. Technology and business strategy aren’t aligned. Technology choices are driven by point-in-time needs, not a technology roadmap that can carry a business years into its future. This problem only gets worse when strategy shifts, or a merger or acquisition occurs, or new leaders enter the organization.
  3. Leaders don’t share a common technology language. This sounds simple, but it isn’t. Leaders with different histories don’t share a common lexicon around technology — so they’re unable to accurately and cohesively address the tradeoffs that are part of any transformation initiative. Down the road, this leads to mistrust and, again, wasted time and money.

We pride ourselves on our applications architecture and implementation skills. But building a technology strategy — and helping clients navigate these challenges — comes first. And to do that, you have to enter the process keenly aware of the hiccups that can derail the work. Through an extensive, collaborative process we pursue the clarity of a central vision, highlight discrepancies in leadership vision, lexicon and needs, and work to align diverse stakeholders around a common, shared outcome. We translate technology choices into language business and marketing users understand and help them see the implications of their work. Finally, when it’s time to implement the technology, our fluency with downstream use cases and our ability to collaborate with diverse partners and teams allow us to keep stakeholders aligned as we iterate to deliver maximum business value.

Whether we are defining your cloud architecture, or implementing a digital SaaS platform, or developing a custom web and mobile solution, our approach — rooted in a deep understanding of common pitfalls and how to avoid them — provides a safety net that our clients have come to love us for.
